It’s Friday night in the big town!

April 10, 2008

If you live in Oklahoma City you have undoubtedly heard Gary England say, “It’s Friday night in the big town!!!” every Friday night for as long as I can remember.  Well, it’s time for Gary to step it up! He has been outdone by “Dance Party Friday”!

I as you know, think that friday night in the big town is just about the most retarded thing i have seen Gary do. I lose total respect for him every time he does it. I personally think News 9 would do great with something like this.
This guy from OH is so stinking funny. My personal favorite is the Nutcracker dance party. Check it out.

I may be a little behind in the popular phrases said on TV, but isnt Gary England’s famous phrase “Stay with Channel 9 we’ll keep you advised..”

The truth is I dont really watch network TV unless there’s bad weather, so I ask, is the phrase really that popular?

quick poll, which one is more popular, big town or advised?

“advised” is his catchphrase so it is more popular. He only does “Friday night in the big town” on Friday nights as he pumps his fist for emphasis. Gotta love Gary!

I have to say, as a person who has moved here from a Non-Gary-England-reaching area, I do not see the appeal. I think he’s a bit dated in his approach in weather relaying skills. I definately do not want to see (or hear) him talk about anything else. Maybe I’m missing something important from before I moved here, but how did he even get a job on T.V.? That is just me, though. Apparently, he’s quite popular!!

I know this thread is a bit old, but John, if you really want to know, understand what this means to Oklahomans – a saying Gary coined – “If you are not below ground level, you will not survive”. He’s saved more lives than one will ever know.
