Only 40 years ago

May 5, 2008

It was only 40 years ago that the United States Supreme Court decided it was okay for interracial couples to marry.  That decision overturned laws in at least 17 states where it was against the law.

This story is important to me because not only am I the product of an interracial relationship, but I am also in an interracial marriage.

The couple in the photo paved the way for that to happen, and she died this past weekend. The full story can be found here. Unbelievably, they pleaded guilty to the charge of “cohabiting as man and wife, against the peace and dignity of the Commonwealth”.

it is truly amazing that it has only been 40yrs since that ruling.
i wish i could chat with your biological mother and learn the story behind her relationship with your biological father. i am sure that would’ve been “taboo” only being a few years after this ruling.

Mike you were going to be in an interracial marriage no matter what 🙂

This is a good point to admit that I’m very prejudice. I don’t like stupid people…regardless of color.

It’s not so hard to remember that it was only 40 years ago when you see those whisper e-mails stiring-up fear about Barack Obama.
