Trust in God

July 13, 2008

I am going through a difficult time right now of uncertainty both professionally and personally.  It is what inspired me to write this prayer.  It is my desire to trust in God completely and leave the outcome to Him, and accepting His chosen path as His perfect will for me.

Nelson’s Bible Dictionary defines faith as “A belief in or confident attitude toward God, involving commitment to His will for one’s life.” I am confident that God knows what is best for me and my family and it is my desire to follow Him.  I have been looking at several examples in scripture of men that have trusted God with their lives.

The first one I want to look at is David.  My prayer has been that I will have the confidence of David.

We are all familiar with the story of David and Goliath.  When faced with a seemingly impossible task David was able to draw on past experiences and have the confidence that God would come through for him again.

In 1 Samuel 17:37 David says…
37    The LORD who delivered me from the paw of the lion and the paw of the bear will deliver me from the hand of this Philistine.” Saul said to David, “Go, and the LORD be with you.” (NIV)

Obviously, the hand of God was with David as he took his slingshot and headed into battle.  As you read the next passage you can hear the passion as David lets his confidence show as he is shouting at Goliath.  There was no doubt in his mind. God was going to give him the victory!

1 Samuel 17:45-47
45    David said to the Philistine, “You come against me with sword and spear and javelin, but I come against you in the name of the LORD Almighty, the God of the armies of Israel, whom you have defied.
46    This day the LORD will hand you over to me, and I’ll strike you down and cut off your head. Today I will give the carcasses of the Philistine army to the birds of the air and the beasts of the earth, and the whole world will know that there is a God in Israel.
47    All those gathered here will know that it is not by sword or spear that the LORD saves; for the battle is the LORD’s, and he will give all of you into our hands.”

God is always faithful!  He has proved it to me time and time again that he will provide in times of trouble.  Remember those times and have the confidence that He will do it again!
