Trust in God – Part 2

July 14, 2008

Yesterday, I talked about the story of David and Goliath and my desire to have David’s confidence in God.  Today I am going to look at Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego.  My prayer is to have their acceptance of God’s will.

The story of Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego is of three men who chose to follow their convictions and face the consequences rather than disobey God.  King Nebuchadnezzar had made an idol and declared that everyone was to fall down and worship the idol.  Every man who did not obey would be thrown into a fiery furnace.  When given a second chance to obey, they still chose not to bow to the idol.

Yesterday, we saw David had confidence.  These guys take it one step further.  They had confidence and a wonderful acceptance of God’s will.

In Daniel 3:17-18 they respond to Nebuchadnezzar by saying…
17    If we are thrown into the blazing furnace, the God we serve is able to save us from it, and he will rescue us from your hand, O king.
18    But even if he does not, we want you to know, O king, that we will not serve your gods or worship the image of gold you have set up.” (NIV)

Wow!  They are fully confident that God has the ability to save them, but the next verse shows another level of committment.  They said, “even if he does not”, we won’t bow to your idol.  They accepted the fact that God sometimes chooses a different path for us than the one we would have chosen.

God is a sovereign God.  He always knows what is best for me.  Lord, give me the ability to accept the place He has me in and learn from it.

That’s an amazing prayer and a beautiful story – confidence in God’s sovereignty despite the outcome and our perspective, right? I’m praying for you as well. I need it so much in my own life. Thanks for posting. God bless.

Praying Daniel 3:18 is such a pivotal moment in the life of a believer.
